Transforming Health Through Local Partnerships

At the institute, we lead with impact—addressing the real needs of rural and urban communities through clinical innovation and community-rooted service. Our experts collaborate with local hospitals, clinics and systems to strengthen care delivery where it’s needed most.

Our work spans across various Texas A&M colleges and schools, uniting clinical, educational and legal expertise to create healthier communities.

Legal Solutions to Improve Health Outcomes

We champion and connect experts in health and law with others in the health care environment to jointly tackle the root causes of poor health, like housing instability, lack of transportation, limited access to services and other factors that affect patients’ well-being. We support the medical-legal partnership (MLP) model in delivering more personalized care by embedding legal services into the health care journey.

Place-based clinical and community services are vital for transforming health care at its core. By integrating education, research and direct care within the communities we serve, we are better equipped to address the unique challenges each population faces because it is not a one-size-fits-all approach.

LEGAL SERVICES TO REDUCE RECIDIVISM

Our medical-legal partnership (MLP) expertise helps us bring and advise on critical legal services to incarcerated individuals at a federal prison camp.

As leaders in MLP consultation and implementation, we are key contributors to the Texas A&M University School of Law’s MLP course, which enables law students at the school’s Fort Worth-based clinic to advise adults in custody on their legal rights post-release. These rights include access to essential needs such as housing, food security and more that are key to avoiding re-incarceration. Our team provides didactic instruction and oversight in the clinic and a complementary course at the Naresh K. Vashisht College of Medicine, guiding students through an interprofessional approach to a targeted intervention that helps erase barriers for patient-clients upon release.
